The state of Jalisco in Mexico convene an International Architectural Competition for the realization of the national public library based in the city of Guadalajara. Projecting a library is a difficult exercise because all this kinds of buildings mark deep and enduring the imagination of its users! This building is not only functional but also poetic. A building were "the lower deck" belongs to the city: spaces devoted to the various library collections are a big separated box from the ground through "Pilotis" which liberates a multifunctional space (large arcade). The library is conceived as a building open to the public, a resting place between the long pedestrian axis that extends from the metropolitan auditorium to the central square of cultural complex.
"The project is not only a beautiful object but a real special route: a long trip to discover in successive stages". The two volumes that constitute the library are "one the negative the other". The south facade is enriched at the bottom by a "massive" elliptical volume which contains the ground floor , access to the
auditorium and the library theatre, while on the first floor is also present a large panoramic glazed terrace. The top of this southern front is, however, characterized by a system of windows with "brise soleil" and contains photovoltaic panels that ensure part of the electric internal provision.
